Posted October 01, 2018 09:02:37The NHL’s next TV deal expires after the 2022-23 season.
The league wants to increase revenue to $7 billion by 2023-24, but the NHLPA says the new TV deals are “inadequate” and the NHL will not renegotiate the deals.
The NHL and the National Hockey League Players’ Association have been working to resolve their differences.
The two sides are expected to sign a new TV contract next month.
The union is asking the NHL to make changes to the new contracts that would give fans a “more consistent and reliable viewing experience.”
The new TV agreement will run through the 2022/23 season, the league said.
It also wants the league to make other changes, including a new television package that includes more local, regional and international rights.
The current TV deals with NBC and Fox Sports 1 expire in 2022.
The NHL and NHLPA are working on a new deal with ESPN, and the league is hoping to sign it soon.
The TV deals will also help pay for the expansion of the NHL and other sports in the United States, the union said.
